AD/ Oakley's New Room featuring Desenio

A month or so ago Desenio got in touch to ask if we could work together again, we had been struggling to get Oakley’s room finished for a long time and I remember thinking this could be the kick up the backside we needed to get inspired and finish off his room before Christmas! I was SO right, before I replied to the email I popped onto the website and found a collection of prints that I knew would work with the running loose theme we had decided on and prints that I knew Oaks would love too. The last time we decorated Oaks room was when he was tucked up inside my belly and although thats only 4 years ago now it feels like a lifetime ago, looking around his room it still very much felt like a nursery and the room just did not represent the lively, colourful & playful boy that he is.

His room seemed smaller than ever before, the number of things he has like toys and dress up keeps growing but the space he has for himself doesn't make best place for him to be a 3 year old. So Daniel (my joiner husband) cam up with an idea for a bed! To maximise the space in the room he designed a bunk bed but with no bottom bunk, so we could use this as a place to play or a space for storage. We wanted it to be super clean lines, modern looking so it would suit all the imaginary plans that were in my head at this point. A few Pinterest sessions and sketches later we were ready to create it.

Oaks is super hero crazy, so we wanted to touch on this but without it taking over the room. I wanted him to love it but as selfish as it sounds I wanted to love it too. We kept Oakley’s grey wardrobe as it was part of a 3 piece set from Mamas & Papas and the other 2 parts are in Olives room now. Almost everything else has gone, we have got him new toy storage from Ikea, new rug from Tkmaxx then floor cushion, tipi mat & bedding from Vertbaudet. The wooden toy box on wheels is from Ikea, the grey caged tubs are from Tkmaxx, personalised star toy bag is from My 1st Years.

So many of Oaks rooms accessories are from Insta shops, some of which we have collected since he was born. I will link HERE a post where I have tagged most of the items that you might see in this blog post.

Bedding is from Vertbaudet, they have an incredible selection of children’s bedding and there always seems to be some kind of sale or discount code running so we doubled up and also got the Grey colour in this set too.

Square mustard & grey cushions are from IKEA, they worked out under £15.00 for all 4 when buying the covers and the inserts separately and they are the perfect colour match for this bedding.

The initial cushion is from Darwin & Gray. The ball string lights are from the Range.

I LOVE Oaks new dressing up station, we originally had ideas to attach something to the wall for his costumes to hang from but he has so many that nothing seemed right. Then when we were shopping in Ikea I saw the clothes rail and thought that idea was much more practical, this way he can keep as many out as he wants, he can move the rail around the room and eventually when he’s done with them we can use the rail for something else. The dressing up box is from a lovely stall holder at my events, The personalised Craft company can personalise lots of products to suit, we went with Grey box & white text but there are other options.

The Tipi is an old one that we have had since Oaks first Christmas but they have a beautiful Insta shop called tHE Tipi. The mat is from Vertbaudet and has 2 prints so you can flip it for a different look.

The room is painted in an off white but the teal coloured triangles on two walls are ‘Vardo’ a colour by Farrow & Ball, a tip for paint is to go with B&Qs own. Use a Farrow & Ball colour chart for B&Q to match the colour and you save lots of money but the paint quality seems to be better. We then added the vinyl stickers from The Best Years to really bring the superhero theme to life, we opted for lightening blots, super hero masks & stars. I originally though down the middle of the chimney breast wall, but after the paint went on I thought it would look great on the teal colour and add the feature.

The Prints

The selection on Desenio is incredible, you can use the features on the website to really narrow down your searches and find exactly what it is your looking for. We visited to Children’s section and found prints that we knew Oakley would love. We knew we wanted to do a collection of prints in the same size in a row, just over lapping the teal triangle for effect. Then I also wanted to use a large hanging poster on the chimney breast & one above his bed. I love creating little nooks in his room that have character, shelves with prints, books and figures etc, styling those kind of areas are my favourite.

Hanging Poster- CAR TRACK CITY POSTER (£18.95 50cmx70cm)

Bring above Bed- PASTEL DINOSAURS, POSTER (£5.95 21cmx30cm)

1 of 3 on Teal Wall- GROW UP, BLUE, POSTER (£9.95 30cmx40cm)

2 of 3 on Teal Wall- BATMAN REVERSE, POSTER (£9.95 30cmx40cm)

3 of 3 on Teal Wall- MR RACCOON BLUE, PRINTS (£9.95 30cmx40cm)

Black picture frames are also from Desenio and priced at £12.95, the thing I love about the frames is that they are not glass so no risk of damage and they come covered with a film so they can not get scratched etc. The hanging poster frame is called MOEBE POSTER HANGER and is priced at £41.95, a little steep but such a unique alternative to a frame and I love the way it looks so effortlessly cool! The wooden clip thats above Oaks bed is called MOEBE PINCH IN OAK and that is £8.95 and another cool way to display, it works so well above a shelf to add interest and height.

Use my discount code ‘OAKSANDOLIVE’ to get 25% off posters* on all of their sites between December 11th and 13th. Follow @desenio for more inspiration!
*Frames and handpicked-/collaboration posters excluded.
